“Anong iniiyak mo dyan?! Magsalita ka!” (What are you blubbering about?! Say something!) - Edmar Takoyo (a co-worker)

It maybe because of the smoke, the beer, drinking cold pineapple juice or being up and about until 4 in the morning, last Saturday (I was talked into coming with some co-workers for a night-out at something called “Paddi’s Point” in Malate. The occasion was somewhat fun - although I don’t fancy ear-shattering [I managed to survive with my ear-drums intact somehow.] music and club dancing that much - until one of my colleagues lost her “cel-phone”, along with other important possessions (and the club management was being incredibly blasé about it). We somehow ended up in a police station (to report the incident), and lastly, a “group breakfast” before going our separate ways). In any case, I have a bad case of sore throat today, I don’t think it’s my old friend “pharyngitis” yet, but I better be careful, as it’s EPT (EDAS Proficiency Torture - just kidding) this week.

I’m currently “immersed” in what has become a favourite hobby lately (other than reading and drawing), watching Japanese shows. I’ve recently finished “Hotaru no Hikari” (Glow of Fireflies), an outstanding comedy of sorts (with the added of bonus of having Naohito Fujiki -brilliant as always - and Kato Kazuki - I don’t care much about his rather “wooden” performance here though, he seems to be bent on doing impersonations of trees and was quite successful ;p). Now I’m watching “Seito Shokun!” (Dear Students!), a more “serious” version of “Gokusen”; with Rina Uchiyama (the perky stewardess in Good Luck!) taking on the role of the “dedicated teacher” - and I must say she’s rather good; also features Horikita Maki as Kimura Juria (the main antagonist), and Yu Shirota in a thankless role as the idiotic P.E. teacher (they should have made him one of the students, or something). If one is to ignore the sometimes improbable plot, the story is quite alright. I’ve only seen up to Episode 5 (I’ve read there are no English subs yet for EPs 6-10, well I’m currently viewing the Chinese subs for 6 onwards - but that doesn’t really count, since I only vaguely understand what is going on).

Two new books to keep me busy.

On a summer day in 1935, young Briony Tallis witnesses a moment’s flirtation between her older sister, Cecilia, and Robbie Turner, the son of a servant. But Briony’s misunderstanding of adult motives and her precocious imagination bring about a crime that will change all their lives, a crime whose repercussions Atonement follows through the chaos and carnage of World War II into the close of the 20th century. (from the paperback)

I’ve only started reading this last Friday (I’m somewhere around page 52). It’s quite interesting and reminiscent of Virginia Woolf’s writing. I’ve seen the movie as well (and came out of the theatre thoroughly depressed :D)

hdmskIn this stunning sequel to The Golden Compass, the intrepid Lyra finds herself in a shimmering, haunted otherworld - Cittagazze, where soul-eating Specters stalk the streets and wingbeats of distant angels sound against the sky. But she is not without allies: twelve year-old Will Parry, fleeing from his life after taking another’s, has also stumbled into this strange new realm.

On a perilous journey from world to world, Lyra and Will uncover a deadly secret: an object of extraordinary and devastating power. And with every step, they move closer to an even greater threat - and the shattering truth of their own destiny. (a bit dramatic for a summary, wouldn’t you say? - from the Yearling edition)

Haven’t even begun reading this (I still have a couple of pages left from Book I).

So sleepy.

My first attempt at “video-editing”. Done sometime ago, during my Death Note phase (to the tune of “Unrecorded” by M83). Software used: MS Windows Movie Maker.

Took me half the day (I had to avoid the frames with subtitles).
